Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 28, 2026
Lettuce Eat (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Lettuce Eat mobile application (the “App”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the App.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
You can use much of the App without an account. If you create one (required for Premium, cloud sync, family sharing, and optional AI features), we collect your email address and a display name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive limited profile information from those providers (such as your name and email address). Email sign-in also stores a password hash with our authentication provider; we do not see your raw password.
Recipes, Meal Plans, Groceries, and Nutrition
The App stores the content you create: recipes (including ingredients, steps, photos, tags, and cookbooks), meal plans, grocery lists, custom foods, and nutrition logs. Recipe photos and similar images are stored in our cloud storage when you are signed in.
Family Data
If you create or join a family, we store the family name, member profiles, and roles so household members can share recipes, plans, and lists.
Imports and On-Device Capture
If you import a recipe from a website or a public Instagram post, we fetch publicly available title, caption, and image data you asked us to import. Scanning a recipe uses on-device OCR (or PDF text extraction). Dictating a meal uses the microphone and Apple speech recognition; audio may be processed by Apple unless the device handles recognition locally.
Optional AI Enhancements
If you turn on AI Enhancements (Premium), we may send recipe text, meal descriptions, grocery items, or nutrition context you provide to Google Gemini via our servers so we can structure recipes, estimate nutrition, or group grocery items. This is off by default.
Shared Recipes
If you share a recipe link, anyone with that link can view a snapshot of the recipe (including its photo, if any) in the App or on our website.
Subscription Information
If you subscribe to Lettuce Eat Premium, Apple processes your payment through the App Store. We receive a transaction identifier to verify your subscription status but do not have access to your payment card details.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the App
- Authenticate your identity and manage your account
- Sync and share recipes, meal plans, groceries, and nutrition within your family
- Power optional AI features you enable
- Process and verify subscriptions
- Respond to support inquiries
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Within your family group: Other members of your household can see shared family data such as recipes, meal plans, and grocery lists.
- With people you share with: Anyone you send a recipe share link to can view that recipe.
- Service providers: We use Supabase to host our backend infrastructure, database, authentication, and file storage. When AI Enhancements are on, Google Gemini processes the content you submit for those features. These providers process data on our behalf in accordance with their privacy policies.
- Authentication providers: If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google, those providers handle the authentication flow in accordance with their respective privacy policies.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, or legal process.
4. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with the following third-party services:
- Supabase — backend infrastructure, authentication, database, and file storage
- Apple Sign-In — optional authentication method
- Google Sign-In — optional authentication method
- Apple App Store — subscription and payment processing
- Google Gemini — optional AI features, only when you enable AI Enhancements
- Apple Speech Recognition — optional meal dictation
We do not currently use any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
5. Children’s Privacy
The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. Families may store recipes and meal data that mention children; that information is entered by adult users. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
6. Data Security
We use commercially reasonable security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (TLS), secure authentication, and access controls. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Data Retention
On-device data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Cloud data is retained for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the App’s services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within a reasonable timeframe, except where retention is required by law.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
